The City of Oak Harbor’s Parks and Recreation Department is placing a new Christmas Tree at SE Dock Street and SE Pioneer Way.
The Parks and Recreation Department removed the former Christmas Tree on November 1, 2023. You might have even seen the City’s Arborist Bob Bailey on site removing the old tree. The Cedar tree needed to be removed due to declining health. Unfortunately, the issues leading to the tree’s poor health could not be mitigated through pruning or site improvements. We are sad to see it go.
The next steps include excavating and removing the old sump to prepare the site for the arrival of the new tree on November 7, 2023. This work will take a few hours and requires the Parks and Recreation Department to block some parking stalls while they are working.
On November 8, 2023, they are planning to prepare the site for the arrival of the new Christmas Tree. The work may require some minimal impacts on traffic on SE Pioneer Way and the use of some parking stalls.
Stay tuned for details on the date of installation. Currently, Parks and Recreation staff plan to place the tree on the site during the week of November 20, 2023. This work will require some traffic impacts and the use of parking spaces near the tree.
We are excited about the new tree and can’t wait for it to light up the holiday season in Oak Harbor.
