Oak Harbor Police Department Responds to an Assault with a Knife

On November 20, 2025, at approximately 11:42 a.m., the Oak Harbor Police Department, with assistance from the Island County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a reported assault involving a knife in the 1200 block of Barlow Street.

Upon arrival, officers and deputies encountered two individuals engaged in an active altercation. Officers intervened and determined that one individual had sustained a laceration to the arm. Officers rendered emergency medical aid until fire and medical personnel arrived, and the injured party was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Multiple witnesses provided information regarding the incident. Based on details gathered at the scene, the second individual involved, identified as James Matlock, 52, was taken into custody. Mr. Matlock was booked into the Island County Jail on a charge of Assault in the Second Degree.

This incident remains under active investigation. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
