Day 1-6 Forecast Summary: Showers will stream across western Washington and into the Cascades today, along w/chilly highs of 40s, and winds of 10-20 mph. After a brief break early Tuesday, an impressively deep low pressure system is expected to track just off the Washington Coast Tuesday evening with a surface pressure incredibly low and near 950 mb. And when combined with strong high pressure over the Mountain West, the pressure gradient over the Cascades and western Washington will reach impressive levels from 4 pm Tue to 4 am Wed and where east wind gusts of 50-70 mph are likely in the Cascade gaps and into the western Cascade foothills. Areas that are likely to be impacted greatest include Greenwater, North Bend, Maple Valley, Issaquah, Skykomish, Concrete, and Sedro-Wooley. It will also be quite windy over the rest of Island, Whatcom, and Skagit Counties w/wind gusts of 40-60 mph. East winds are likely to gust 35-50+ mph across the rest of the Puget Sound. An impressive storm indeed and where many outages should be expected. Rain and snow will also accompany this system as well, including the potential for a few inches of snow for the Kittitas Valley early Wednesday. Showers are expected to continue for mid and late in the week.

Storm season preparation tips:
· Make sure to have emergency supplies on hand at home and in your vehicle, such as extra batteries, flashlights and non-perishable foods
· Have a battery-powered radio ready to go
· Charge cell phones, portable batteries and mobile devices in case the power goes out
· Avoid opening and closing refrigerators and freezers more often than necessary. A closed refrigerator will stay cold for up to 12 hours.
· Turn off lights and unplug all appliances and sensitive electronic equipment, such as computers, to prevent an overload on your circuits when electric service is restored. Leave one light on to let you know when service returns.
