City Councilmember Dan Evans (Position Number 4) resigned from his position on the Oak Harbor City Council effective immediately on Friday, April 7, 2023.

Mayor Bob Severns received a letter of resignation from Councilmember Evans. City Administrator Blaine Oborn notified the City Council and City Leadership Team about the resignation and the scheduled item on the April 18 City Council Meeting to discuss the vacancy. Councilmember Evans has served on the Oak Harbor City Council since January 2022. The current term for Position 4 is January 2022 to December 2025.

According to the Island County Elections Office, “since the effective date of the councilmember’s resignation occurred before filing week, RCW 29A.24.171 and RCW 29A.52.240 designate the unexpired term of the elective office must be placed on the next general election ballot for the district (city), which will be November 7, 2023.”

The City Council is required to select an individual to temporarily fill this seat until the certification of the November election, when the individual elected in the general ballot will take office. For more details, go to oakharbor.gov.
