The Legal department provides the following legal services to the City staff, City leadership, Mayor, and City Councilmembers:
- Creates contracts/amendments, ordinances, and resolutions and approves agenda bills.
- Provides legal advice and other legal documents for staff.
- Represents the City in court proceedings for lawsuits brought against the City or filed on the City's behalf.
- Prosecutes offenses under the Oak Harbor Municipal Code.
- Responds to Public Record Requests.
- Assists the Oak Harbor Police Department with Domestic Violence cases.
- Processes Claim for Damages forwarded from the City Clerk.
The Legal department does not provide representation to individual citizens or community groups/organizations and is strictly prohibited from providing legal advice to others.
