1. A coach is expected to provide a fun, supportive and safe environment for all of the players, coaches and officials involved in the program. The City of Oak Harbor Parks and Recreation Department aims to provide a positive learning experience for all players involved and our coaches are the front lines in making sure our youth athletes feel comfortable and enjoy their time with us.
2. A coach should ensure all players are getting the coaching that they need to improve. This means working with players of all ability levels in an effort to improve their skills and understanding of the game while also encouraging team participation with emphasis on finding roles for all involved players.
3. A coach is responsible for making sure all players and their families are aware of all team activities. It is highly encouraged to get volunteer help from the parents but a coach should ensure that the team knows when and where games and practices are as well as any additional league events.
4. A coach is expected to know the rules of the game and agree to follow them. Rules are provided by the league and any questions on rules will be clarified by league officials.
5. A coach above all is a role model to the youth athletes in the league. A good coach can have a positive impact on all participants, including opposing players. All coaches should always display good sportsmanship and lead all players and spectators by supporting all players and accepting the decisions of league officials.
6. Equipment will be provided by the league for coaches to be successful. Coaches are responsible for care of league equipment and return of the equipment at the end of the season.
7. Coaches will help in the distribution of uniforms, team pictures and trophies. Any items that are not collected by the appropriate family or are extra should be returned to the league for the appropriate distribution.
