Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9

The Department of Homeland Security requires that the completion of the Form I-9 be done timely and with proper identification.

New Hires - Full-time and Part-time (3+ days per week): All new hires (including seasonal rehires), must complete an I-9 form with HR within the first three business days of the employee's first day of employment.

  • Example: If an employee begins employment on Monday, the City must complete Section 2 of the Form I-9 by Thursday of that week.
  • New hires that do not complete the paperwork within these time limits must be sent home and may not return to work until the paperwork is complete.
