[ARCHIVED] 2022 Fire Service Levy

Fire Levy Spotlight

Propositions 1 and Proposition 2 on your November 2022 General Election Ballot will provide funding for improved fire protection response times and capabilities allowing the City to:

  • build and operate a fire station in the southwest area of Oak Harbor,
  • Increase minimum staffing to six firefighters,
  • replace a 24-year-old fire engine and equip the new station with a quint truck, and
  • purchase necessary protective gear and tools.

Oak Harbor Fire Department has not asked for a levy in over 30 years. The last time was when the current fire station on Whidbey Avenue was funded and built. You also funded the purchase of a new 1992 ladder truck that is still in service 30 years later. Since the 1990s, Oak Harbor has grown... a lot:

  • the size of Oak Harbor has increased from 3.4 square miles to over 9.7 square miles (186% increase),
  • there are 51% more homes (and that doesn’t include the 500 new homes currently being built),
  • population has increased by 43%, and
  • the fire department’s call volume has increased by 91%.

It’s time for Oak Harbor Fire Department to grow too.

Watch for two (2) Fire Service propositions (Proposition 1: Levy Lid Lift and Proposition 2: General Obligation Bonds) on your November 8, 2022 General Election Ballot. Learn more today at http://www.oakharbor.org/firelevy
