Consumer Product Safety Commission
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has jurisdiction over more than 15,000 kinds of consumer products used in and around the home, in sports, recreation, and schools including:
- Appliances
- Clothing
- Electronics
- Furniture
- Household
- Children's products
- Lighting/lighters
- Outdoor equipment
- Sports/exercise
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation provides recall information including vehicle and equipment campaigns from 1966 to present. The campaigns include motor vehicle products which experienced a safety-related defect or did not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards:
- Motor vehicles and related equipment
- Child safety seats
- Tires
Coast Guard
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) investigates consumer complaints about recreational boats and related equipment. Review safety tips, news, recalls, defects, and laws and regulations dealing with:
- Recreational boats (including personal watercraft)
- Boat manufacturer installed equipment
- Boating safety issues
Food & Drug Administration & Department of Agriculture
The Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture share responsibility for food safety. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has jurisdiction over recalls involving the following:

Food Safety & Inspection Service
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspects and regulates the following:
- Meat
- Poultry products
- Eggs
Environmental Protection Agency
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides leadership in the nation's environmental science, research, education, and assessment efforts. EPA has jurisdiction over recalls involving:
- Pesticides
- Rodenticides
- Fungicides
- Vehicle emission testing
